The Chipmunks are back in live action in Alvin and the Chipmunk: The Squeakquel. The movie is on DVD, Blu-Ray, and digital download and you can buy it now. The Double DVD Pack will especially be a great addition to Chipmunk fans' DVD collections. The Double DVD Pack has a bonus Squeak Along disc with bonus features that include singalongs, music, and more Chipmunk mayhem. The Blu-Ray is also nice for those that have a Blu-Ray player, as the quality is nearer to the theater experience, but in the comfort of home.
The live action Chipmunks is not quite the same as the animated Chipmunks I remember watching as a kid, but they still are similar to their old selves and at least for the most part are still family friendly entertainment. The live action movies may never be as good as the animated versions, but some kids may like the live action better just because it is more modern. The Squeakquel is also nice in that it has the Chipettes, which I at least loved when they appeared in the animated Chipmunk stuff.
